At the eastern end of Talbot Bay lies Poulton Creek, a large freshwater system not far from the Horizontal Waterfalls. The creek is lined with an extensive mangrove system, and on a still morning this makes for the most beatiful reflective shots. In the wet season the sheer volume of freshwater in Poulton Creek keeps the saltwater at bay. Have … Read More
Wet Season Roebuck Bay
After a period of being landlocked, we packed our cameras and headed out in the dinghy yesterday for a cruise around Roebuck Bay, enjoying unseasonal easterly winds. Our prevailing wet season winds are westerlies, which make for choppy conditions in Roebuck Bay. Heading across the bay to the waters off Thangoo, we spotted six of these gorgeous little newborn Zebra … Read More
Ghost Crab
A feisty Horn-eyed Ghost Crab (Ocypode ceratophthalmus) adopts a defensive position on Broome’s Cable Beach. Ghost crabs are named for their pale carapace, and this particular species for the protrusions from its eye stalks. More Kimberley Stock Photos
One of our hard drives bit the dust this week, which prompted me to be more vigilant about archiving data from previous years onto more than one drive. In the process I had a look at some files of images from years past, and spent part of the morning uploading some new images to our Kimberley Stock Photos website. After … Read More
New images on Kimberley Stock Photos
I’ve spent the morning touching up and uploading some of Richard Costin’s beautiful images of the Kimberley coast and inland, most of them taken with a Pentax 6×7 medium format camera. One of my favourites is this beautiful wet season shot of Kingfisher Island, in the Buccaneer Archipelago, taken on a low spring tide which exposed the mudflats surrounding the … Read More
